PRO-LIFE CONCERNS ABOUT THE COVID VACCINES
Many Americans are hesitant to take the Covid-19 vaccines. One issue raised by pro-life Christians is whether the vaccines are tied to the use of human cells that come from aborted fetuses. If so, are Christians complicit in abortion if they get these vaccines? How should our pro-life ethic inform our decision of whether or not to get vaccinated?
COVID VACCINE SAFETY, EFFICACY, AND MANDATES
Talk of the COVID-19 vaccine has become central to conversations across the US and around the world. The production and distribution of this vaccine has raised many questions about safety, efficacy, and potential mandates that the vaccine may bring. What does the evidence show?
COURT GRANTS COVID RELIGIOUS LIBERTY VICTORY
Many churches have come into conflict with governing authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. One such instance came between Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in Nevada and Steve Sisolak, Nevada’s governor. He had imposed much harsher restrictions on churches than on casinos and other businesses deemed “essential.”
DO LOCKDOWNS KILL MORE PEOPLE THAN THEY SAVE?
It is easy to think that there are simple answers to the COVID-19 pandemic from a Christian perspective. Many people have said staying at home and wearing a mask is the best way for Christians to love their neighbor as we are biblically commanded to (Mark 12:31). However, is this the only consideration we need to make? A holistic look at the issue of the COVID-19 lockdown may lead us to ask if the lockdown is the best way to love our neighbors.
COVID-19 AND THE VALUE OF LIFE
Amid a new wave of COVID-19 cases this winter, increased restrictions and limitations are being imposed to try and stop further spread and protect vulnerable lives. However, thousands of doctors, scientists, and medical professionals have signed the Great Barrington Declaration. These experts question whether continuing these harsh quarantine measures is wise in light of the other unintended consequences of the restrictions.
CONTACT TRACING FOR CHURCHES
In an effort to fight the spread of COVID-19, many state and county officials have been requiring churches to collect the contact information of those who attend worship services and even some outdoor events like baptisms, weddings, and funerals. This is called contact tracing. If someone were to attend one of these events and display symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 within 2 days of that event, then health officials would be able to “trace” the possible routes that the disease could have spread.
TO WEAR A MASK OR NOT TO WEAR A MASK?
Wearing a face mask has become a source of great controversy and confusion in the United States. To some people, wearing or not wearing a mask has become more of a political statement than a health decision meant to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Videos have emerged showing people getting into heated arguments over wearing or not wearing a mask. In such a tense environment, how should Christians think about something as simple as wearing a face mask?
FEAR & THE COVID VACCINE
Christian support for vaccines has a longstanding history. In recent years, skepticism towards vaccines has grown and infiltrated Christian and non-Christian groups alike. In the early 2000s, celebrities began speaking out against vaccines and the negative effects they believed the vaccines had on their children. The anti-vax movement (as it is commonly referred to) has continued to grow during the Coronavirus pandemic as health leaders have sought to develop a vaccine for COVID-19. Even those who are generally “pro-vaccine” have concerns about the upcoming COVID-19 vaccine and its short trial period. Due to these concerns, many say that they will wait to receive the vaccine or will not get it at all.
WHEN SHOULD CHURCHES SUBMIT TO GOVERNMENT?
For several months, churches have undergone some kind of restrictions on corporate gathering and worship in order to slow the spread of Covid-19. This has led to conflicts between churches and government officials over their ability to gather for corporate worship in a manner consistent with their beliefs. For Christians, one of the primary issues involved in these decisions is our interpretation of Romans 13 and what it means to submit to the government.
IS THE COVID VACCINE THE MARK OF THE BEAST?
Some have suggested that the coming COVID-19 vaccine is the mark of the beast spoken of in Revelation. Many believers are unsure of how to address issues related to the end times and COVID as it relates to the end times is no exception. What does the Bible say about the mark of the beast and could it be the COVID vaccine?
COVID-19 & WORSHIPPING WITH WISDOM
In California, new restrictions have banned singing and chanting in indoor church settings. This new ban was met with deep disapproval by religious peoples who have convictions to sing or chant as a part of their gathered worship. For Christians, singing and the recitation of Scripture is often a crucial part of a church service. How should Christians respond?
QUESTIONING THE QUARANTINE
As Americans do their best to sift through the concerns of COVID-19, questions of reopening spark fear for those troubled by the risk of another spike in infections. Many object to reopening as they worry it is too soon and will result in a dangerous increase in sickness. While this concern is valid, it is critical to recognize that putting the country on lockdown has its own ramifications, some of which are deadly.
COVID-19 AND THE PROBLEM OF EVIL
There is no question that this global pandemic has created an immense amount of suffering both for those who have endured the virus and those who have lost loved ones. Such an event is leading many to ask why God would allow this seemingly senseless evil to take place.
IS COVID A SIGN OF THE END TIMES?
Amidst the current pandemic of Coronavirus, many have questioned the possibility that this worldwide concern is linked to the end times. The Bible gives clear indications that point to the nearing of the end times. Christians are called to consistently evaluate the current times (Matthew 24:32-33). Three main passages can help Christians answer the questions about the coming of the end times and if Covid-19 could be an indicator.
ARE CHURCHES ESSENTIAL?
In an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus, public gatherings have largely been suspended throughout most of the United States. Of course, there are exceptions: grocery stores, healthcare facilities, critical manufacturing, banking, etc. Such businesses and institutions have been deemed ‘essential.’ However, in many states, church gatherings have not been included on the list of essential businesses or activities. Should they be included?
