BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS
For many years, the United States/Mexico border has been at the forefront of media coverage. There are a number of issues at the border that could be addressed such as human and drug trafficking, violence in detainment camps, and policies regarding refugee and asylum seekers. However, one particular concern has been the Border Patrol’s encounters with unaccompanied children. We have seen unaccompanied children crossing the border for many years. Yet, there has been a recent spike in numbers that should lead Christians to pause and seek a biblical response.
BORDER WALL
In 2017, Nancy Pelosi (a self-proclaimed Catholic) made the broad claim that the border wall is not only expensive and unwise, but also immoral. While it is easy to recognize that a wall in and of itself is neither moral nor immoral, one must address if Christians are loving foreigners well in requiring the use of ports of entry.
BIBLICAL LOVE AT THE BORDER
The Bible has a lot to say about how Christians are to treat one another and even addresses how to interact with those residing in your land who reject your culture, traditions, and religion. God is clear that He loves the foreigner and that means that Christians should too, both in principle and in practice. God shows that love for the foreigner is not a rejection of justice. Christians are likewise called to reflect the love of God and the justice of God simultaneously.
