5 WAYS TO PRAY FOR BIDEN
Joe Biden has recently become the 46th president of the United States. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign and the one who establishes political leadership, including this new administration. No matter who is in charge, Christians are called to pray for our political leaders. How can Christians be faithful to pray for our leaders, even when we may not agree with them?
CHAOS AT THE CAPITOL
The Capitol Building was breached by rioters claiming the election was stolen by the Biden administration. Many of the protestors were carrying signs or banners saying ‘Jesus 2020’ and ‘Jesus saves.’ Were they acting in accordance with Christian principles? And was the president’s response appropriate? By looking at the actions of the protesters, the President, and the public’s response, Christians can more adequately respond to these events.
KAMALA HARRIS: A PICTURE OF PROGRESS OR INJUSTICE?
Christians from all political positions are attempting to respond biblically to the projected Biden/Harris administration. Multiple religious leaders have taken to social media to express their excitement over the projected Kamala Harris vice presidency. Harris would be making history as the first woman and woman of color to be vice president. At the same time, Harris has also been a notorious advocate of abortion and actively opposed bans on late term abortions.
ELECTIONS AND GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY
Depending on the results of our elections, Christians may be tempted to draw conclusions about God’s sovereignty or judgment on a nation. Some may be tempted to rejoice or lose hope depending on whether their preferred candidate was the winner or not. But is this right? What does the Bible say about elections and God’s sovereignty? VOTER GUIDE TO 2020 CALIFORNIA PROPOSITIONS
The 2020 election season is upon us, and as Christians, we have a responsibility to steward our political opportunities well. For voters in California, they will also have the opportunity to vote on twelve different statewide propositions, ranging on issues from stem-cell research to criminal justice reform. From a Biblical perspective, Christians should pay special attention to Propositions 14, 16, 20, 22, 23, and 25.
BALLOT HARVESTING
As a result of the upcoming presidential election, ballot harvesting has resurfaced as a topic of discussion. Ballot harvesting is a practice in which volunteers collect absentee ballots and turn them in to the election office. The laws concerning ballot collection by mail and for absentee voters vary by state. In states that have adopted or seek to adopt more progressive forms of ballot collection, some have raised concerns about the security of the election.
SHOULD CHRISTIANS VOTE FOR THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS?
Voting is an important democratic responsibility. Christians should steward their vote for the advancement of the Kingdom similarly to how Paul used his Roman citizenship (Acts 22:25-29). Elections are a great opportunity to use one’s vote for the best possible option. However, it is not always clear what the best options are or how to address moral dilemmas that arise during the voting process.
SHOULD CHRISTIANS VOTE?
The Bible was written in a political context very different from that of modern America. The Old Testament deals mainly with Israel, which was a theocracy in covenant relationship with God. The New Testament was addressed to Jews and Gentiles living under Roman rule. This is different from the United States, where we have a constitutional republic. However, there are some guiding principles that the Bible teaches that can be applied today.
