Joe Biden has recently become the 46th president of the United States. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign and the one who establishes political leadership, including this new administration. No matter who is in charge, Christians are called to pray for our political leaders. How can Christians be faithful to pray for our leaders, even when we may not agree with them?

There are over 20 capital punishment crimes listed in the Old Testament. Some Christians use this as justification for employing the death penalty in modern countries, while others claim this penalty was specific for the theocracy of Israel. What does the Bible really say about the death penalty? Should we still use it today?

Many social media platforms have suspended or banned accounts related to Donald Trump. Likewise, Amazon Web Services, Google, and Apple severed ties with Parler, a social media platform dedicated to free speech. Many Christians and conservatives have declared these actions to be an assault on free speech. How should Christians think about free speech and censorship? What does the Bible say about it?

Ravi Zacharias, a former world renown Christian apologist, has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple women over many years. Preliminary reports state that there is corroborating evidence to back up the claims. How should Christians respond to these allegations in a biblical way?

The Capitol Building was breached by rioters claiming the election was stolen by the Biden administration. Many of the protestors were carrying signs or banners saying ‘Jesus 2020’ and ‘Jesus saves.’ Were they acting in accordance with Christian principles? And was the president’s response appropriate? By looking at the actions of the protesters, the President, and the public’s response, Christians can more adequately respond to these events.

Recently, J.K. Rowling, the acclaimed author of the Harry Potter book series, received an award from the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) for an essay she wrote on sex and gender issues. The essay, written back in June 2020, detailed her position on transgenderism and the effects of erasing the factual basis for biological sex.

Just recently, Missouri Representative Emanuel Cleaver, an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church, said a prayer to open the new 117th Congress. He ended the prayer by saying, “We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma, and gods known by many names by many different faiths, Amen and ‘Awoman’.”

In an age of social media, a phenomenon has occurred which is causing people to lose their jobs or reputations: cancel culture. In a nutshell, cancel culture is a form of social ostracizing of an individual, group, or company in order to publicly shame them by withdrawing public or financial support.

Many churches have come into conflict with governing authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. One such instance came between Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in Nevada and Steve Sisolak, Nevada’s governor. He had imposed much harsher restrictions on churches than on casinos and other businesses deemed “essential.”

With a declining number of people in America claiming to be religious, Christians are finding the culture around them becoming increasingly secular. Christians often disagree about how much or how little to engage with culture especially when the values of the culture seem opposed to biblical values. Questions come to mind such as “How does the church avoid becoming a mere social club?” or “Should Christians try to stay relevant in the culture?”

The question of transgender participation in the athletic category of their preferred gender is of significant debate. Many suggest that the allowance or disallowance is discriminatory and unfair to transgender athletes (those who do not identify with their birth-assigned gender) or cisgender athletes (those who do identify with their birth-assigned gender). These concerns can be addressed through the use of both Scripture and scientific evidence.

It is easy to think that there are simple answers to the COVID-19 pandemic from a Christian perspective. Many people have said staying at home and wearing a mask is the best way for Christians to love their neighbor as we are biblically commanded to (Mark 12:31). However, is this the only consideration we need to make? A holistic look at the issue of the COVID-19 lockdown may lead us to ask if the lockdown is the best way to love our neighbors.

In the final article of our three-part series, we will be addressing the primary proposal of Harris’s video that we should advocate for “equitable treatment,” which, in her words, means that “we all end up at the same place.” This has often been phrased as equality of outcome. Does the Bible promote equality of outcome? Should Christians advocate for solutions which strive towards this goal?

The second of our three-part series, this article addresses the nature of inequity. Is all inequity bad? To what extent are differences in outcome the result of injustice? The final article will address the topic of how we should address inequity and whether we should strive for equality of outcome.

On November 1, Kamala Harris posted a video on her Twitter account about the differences between equity and equality. This will be the first in a three-part series. It explains the differences between biblical equity and equality and whether they are similar to other modern day definitions like Kamala Harris uses.

For many years the recreational use of marijuana was illegal across the United States. Therefore, Christians were often taught to refrain from marijuana use both in submission to the governing authorities (Romans 13:1) and due to its negative effects. As new laws are being passed in many states legalizing marijuana, many Christians may wonder if there is any biblical prohibition on the use of marijuana once it has been legalized by the government. 

It is clear to anyone who has read the Old Testament that there are many laws that Christians do not uphold today. Some laws seem silly from our modern context but still carry severe consequences if broken. Many people have charged Christians with inconsistency for ignoring these commands often found in Leviticus and other books of the Law, saying that Christians only uphold the laws they agree with. Is there any reason to follow some laws and not others?

Does the Bible really say that Jesus was a historical, physical person? And if so, how can we know that the Bible is correct?

Amid a new wave of COVID-19 cases this winter, increased restrictions and limitations are being imposed to try and stop further spread and protect vulnerable lives. However, thousands of doctors, scientists, and medical professionals have signed the Great Barrington Declaration. These experts question whether continuing these harsh quarantine measures is wise in light of the other unintended consequences of the restrictions.

Christians from all political positions are attempting to respond biblically to the projected Biden/Harris administration. Multiple religious leaders have taken to social media to express their excitement over the projected Kamala Harris vice presidency. Harris would be making history as the first woman and woman of color to be vice president. At the same time, Harris has also been a notorious advocate of abortion and actively opposed bans on late term abortions.
